Jozani Forest Tour

We begin the day at Jozani-Chwaka Bay National Park, the largest remaining natural forest in Zanzibar and home to the Kirk’s red colobus monkey, a species found nowhere else on the planet. A local ranger leads you along a shaded forest trail through coral rag thicket and swamp forest, pointing out the red colobus troops as they move through the canopy, often at remarkably close range.

Beyond the monkeys, Jozani supports Sykes’ monkeys, Ader’s duiker, suni antelope, elephant shrews, chameleons, and dense birdlife, and the walk continues onto a raised mangrove boardwalk, where your guide explains how these root systems protect Zanzibar’s coastline and support local fishing communities.

Salaam Cave Tour

From Jozani, we drive south to Kizimkazi, a quiet fishing village on Zanzibar’s southern tip, to reach Salaam Cave, a natural limestone cave with strikingly clear turquoise water. Salaam Cave doubles as a sea turtle conservation site, where injured or recovering turtles are cared for before being released back into the ocean, and you’ll have the chance to swim alongside them in a calm, shallow pool while your guide explains the conservation work behind the site.
