Tour Plan
Our driver-guide picks you up early from your hotel or the ferry terminal in Dar es Salaam, timed around your ferry or flight schedule from Zanzibar. If you're flying in for this safari, our Zanzibar airport transfer service can arrange your pickup so everything connects smoothly. From there, we begin the scenic road journey west toward Mikumi National Park, a drive of roughly five to six hours through changing Tanzanian landscapes. We stop in Morogoro town for lunch, giving you a chance to stretch your legs and taste a bit of local life before continuing into the park.
Once we arrive at Mikumi, we head straight into an afternoon game drive across the open savannah. This is when the park comes alive. We look out for elephants moving in herds, giraffes browsing acacia trees, buffaloes gathered near waterholes, and if we're lucky, lions resting in the shade. As the sun begins to set, we make our way to your lodge or tented camp for dinner and a relaxing overnight stay surrounded by the sounds of the African bush.
We start day two with an early breakfast, because mornings are one of the best times to catch predators active in Mikumi National Park. We set off for a final game drive, exploring different sections of the park such as the Kisungura area and the hippo pools, where crocodiles and hippos are often seen basking near the water's edge. This morning drive gives us a fresh chance to spot species we may have missed the day before, including eland, hartebeest, and the many raptors that call Mikumi home.
By late morning, we begin our return journey to Dar es Salaam, stopping again in Morogoro for lunch along the way.
