Our Spice Farm, Jozani Forest and Stone Town Tour is Zanzibar’s most complete full-day excursion, built for travelers who want to experience the island’s food, wildlife, and history in a single, well-paced trip. We take you through a working spice plantation, into the ancient forest that shelters Zanzibar’s rarest monkey, and finally through the winding streets of a UNESCO World Heritage city, giving you a genuine feel for what makes this island so different from a typical beach destination.

What to Expect on the Tour

Spice Farm Tour

The day starts at a spice farm, where you’ll walk through fragrant rows of clove, nutmeg, and cinnamon trees while a local farmer explains how each spice is grown, harvested, and used in Zanzibari cooking and traditional medicine. Most days, we round this stop off with a traditional Swahili lunch of spiced rice and tropical fruit, a proper taste of the “Spice Island” before we move on.

Jozani forest Tour

From there, we head into Jozani-Chwaka Bay National Park, home to the Kirk’s red colobus monkey, known locally as kima punju. This species is found nowhere else on Earth outside Zanzibar, and it’s a genuine conservation success story: roughly a decade ago the population was considered at risk of extinction, and thanks to ongoing conservation work, around 6,000 red colobus monkeys now live within the forest.

Jozani’s mix of habitats, from swamp forest and coral rag evergreen thicket to mangrove boardwalk, also supports Sykes’ monkeys, Ader’s duiker, suni antelope, elephant shrews, chameleons, and a wide variety of birdlife, making it one of the richest small nature reserves in East Africa.

Stone Town Tour

We close the day in Stone Town, Zanzibar’s historic capital and a UNESCO World Heritage Site shaped by centuries of Arab, African, Indian, and European influence. Walking its narrow, labyrinthine streets, you’ll pass the House of Wonders, the Old Slave Market memorial, and the building where Freddie Mercury was born, while your guide fills in the real history behind Stone Town’s carved doors and coral stone architecture.
