Come with us for a full day on the water, exploring one of the most biodiverse marine reserves in East Africa. Our Mnemba Snorkeling & Sunset Beach tour with Aquarium Reef takes you out to the Mnemba Atoll Marine Conservation Area, off Zanzibar’s northeast coast near Matemwe, for two guided snorkeling sessions across different reef sites, a chance to spot wild dolphins, and a relaxed finish watching the sunset from a quiet beach.
It’s a longer, more complete version of a standard half-day snorkeling trip, built for travelers who want to spend real time in the water rather than rush through a single stop. If you’d prefer a shorter version of the same reef, our Mnemba Island dolphin and snorkeling tour covers the essentials in half a day.

Mnemba Snorkeling
We start the day with a boat ride out to the Mnemba Atoll, a protected marine reserve off Matemwe on Zanzibar’s northeast coast, known for having some of the clearest water and healthiest coral gardens in the region. Your guide leads a snorkeling session over shallow reef, where visibility often reaches beyond twenty meters and colorful reef fish move freely through the coral. Along the way, boats frequently encounter pods of wild dolphins in the surrounding waters, and if the timing is right, you may get to swim within a respectful distance of them.
Aquarium Reef Site
Our second stop is the Aquarium, one of Mnemba Atoll’s most rewarding snorkeling and dive sites, named for the dense concentration of marine life packed into a relatively small stretch of reef. Here, you’ll drift over sandy patches and coral outcrops alive with surgeonfish, parrotfish, moorish idols, and grouper, with the occasional hawksbill or green turtle gliding past. This site tends to hold calmer conditions than the outer reef, making it a comfortable second session even if you’re still building confidence in the water.
Sunset Beach
After a full day in the water, we head to a quiet stretch of beach along Zanzibar’s coastline to unwind before heading back. This is your time to relax on the sand, enjoy fresh fruit, and watch the sky turn orange and gold over the Indian Ocean, a calm, unhurried way to close out a day built around movement and marine life. Many guests tell us this final stop is what turns a good snorkeling trip into a genuinely memorable one.
