Our Spice Farm and Jozani Forest tour pairs a fragrant walk through working clove, vanilla, and cinnamon plantations with a guided nature trail inside Jozani-Chwaka Bay, the island’s only national park and home to the endangered Red Colobus monkey found almost nowhere else on Earth. Tour Plan
Your guide meets you at your hotel mid-morning and drives you inland to a working spice plantation, where the smell of cloves and vanilla fills the air before you even step off the path.
Here, a local farmer leads you between rows of cinnamon trees, black pepper vines, cardamom bushes, and nutmeg trees, letting you touch, smell, and taste each spice as it grows. Along the way, you'll also see how coconut, banana, and jackfruit are cultivated on the same land, and the tour usually wraps with a fresh tropical fruit tasting straight from the farm.
From the spice farm, we continue to Jozani-Chwaka Bay National Park, a patch of ancient coral rag forest that shelters the endangered Red Colobus monkey alongside Sykes' monkeys, bushbabies, and a rich mix of butterflies and birdlife.
A park ranger guides you along a forest trail to observe the monkeys at close, respectful range, then leads you onto the raised mangrove boardwalk, where you'll learn how this ecosystem protects Zanzibar's coastline and supports local fishing communities.
